Education Fast Track!

I am working in the software industry for the past 15 years nearly.

I was recently thinking, ways to empower people in poor countries, or places around us in the quickest way.

I feel, introducing them to the magic field of Information Technology is the fastest possible way.

The software industry only requires these few things:

1. Good Knowledge of English.
2. Basic Knowledge of Maths
3. Introductory knowledge of Internet.

I feel, people in remote places in earth, like in Africa, can benefit from the above approach very quickly.

I was recently into South Africa for a deputation from my company.

I was shocked to find many local youths like the Cab drivers are actually possess good english, but they can't find any good work where they can earn more than very low/average wages out there.

So, I tried the below approach:

1. I took two cab drivers to a local mall in Cape Town.

2. I brought them an affordable mobile data Sim cards(Cell-c) with data validity of 6 months and data limit of 3GBs.

3. I took them to one of their friend house, who had an Old Laptop.

4. I helped them to configure Java Programming SDK and Eclipse GUI in it.

5. I helped to them to execute basic Java Programming in their laptop.

6. For browsing and finding answers using Google, they used their Mobile SIMs that I provided to them and used it as a HotSpot.

7. Believe me! You wont believe how happy they were, learning the programming and I was amazed how quickly they were mastering it!!

8. I taught them how to search in google to find example programs and other tutorials in the net.

9. I gave them 6 months to learn java and try the Java Programmer certification.

10. I showed then ads that require Java Developers in Sandton, where a good one may earn upto 40000 to 50000 rands per month!

11. They could barely believe it!~

Till Now, They are my Best Students so far!!!

Solo Drive from Thrissur, Kerala to Kolkata, West Bengal in an Old TATA Indica

 Quick stats: Kilometers : 2400 approx. Days : 6 days. Planned for 4 days as a solo drive but ended up as 6. Speed avg : 60-80 in good highways. Road conditions : Very good in general except few stretches in Orissa and the beginning of Andra. Tolls : Around 2000 paid, without counting each receipt but an approx amount. Diesel cost : My Indica still gives one the best MPG and it should be around 4000 rupees for the trip. Traffic conditions : If planned well, you can go fast/low traffic till Kolkata borders it is nightmare traffic unless it is 10 pm to 6am Best naturally beautiful place : Orissa.. The Harmful effects of LEDs and CFLs in India and in World in general. Why most people are unaware of the dangers!

 It was around 2009 and I was working as a software engineer at Hewlette Packard in Bangalore, India. Around that time, I was very active working as a CSR coordinator for HP and also got myself involved in many social development and awareness activities. During this time that, LED bulbs were getting a major push from Government agencies, Even environmental groups like Greenpeace apart from their respective manufactures.
